About UK Lotto
Lotto has been the flagship game of the UK National Lottery since the very first draw in November 1994. In June 2026 the operator Allwyn launched the biggest change in the game’s history: every £2 line now plays in two separate rounds on each Wednesday and Saturday draw night, with two machines drawing two sets of numbers. You still pick six numbers from 1 to 59, and you can win in either round or both. The jackpot can roll over five times before a must-be-won draw, and five numbers plus the bonus ball pays a fixed £1 million.
Playing UK Lotto step by step
- Select six different numbers from 1–59, or let a Quick Pick choose them for you.
- After the draw, count how many of your numbers appear among the winning numbers, in any order.
- The top prize needs all six main numbers; smaller combinations win lower prizes set by the operator.
UK Lotto odds explained
There are 45,057,474 possible combinations in UK Lotto, so a single line has a 1 in 45,057,474 chance of the top prize. The next-best result, five main numbers, comes up about once every 141,690 lines, and matching at least three of the six main numbers happens roughly once in 92 lines.
Compared with US Powerball, the jackpot is about 6.5 times easier to hit. Among the 88 lotteries on this site, UK Lotto ranks number 74 for jackpot odds, where number 1 is the easiest. In Europe, Ötöslottó (1 in 43.9 million) has better odds and Süper Loto (1 in 50.1 million) is harder.
Playing two lines in two draws every week – 208 lines a year – you would wait on average around 216,622 years for one jackpot, so the jackpot is something to dream about rather than plan for.
Using the UK Lotto tools on this page
Start with the generator: it produces random UK Lotto lines in the correct format, from one line to ten, and you can copy them in one click. The odds tab lists every match combination, and the demo lets you pick numbers and watch a simulated draw. In the demo you tap six numbers on a 59-ball board, or let Quick Pick do it.
The simulator goes further: ten years of two lines twice a week means 2,080 lines, and on average about 22 of them would match exactly three main numbers while the chance of a top prize in that time is only about 1 in 21,662. A random line is no luckier than your favourite numbers, yet it spreads your picks across the whole range instead of the 1–31 that birthday players crowd into.
