About Lotto Max

Lotto Max is Canada’s biggest jackpot game, run nationally by the Interprovincial Lottery Corporation and drawn every Tuesday and Friday. Each $5 ticket includes three lines of seven numbers from 1 to 50. When the main jackpot grows large, extra Maxmillions prizes of $1 million each are added to the draw, so a single draw can produce many millionaires even if nobody wins the top prize. A bonus number is also drawn from the same pool, but it only affects the second and lower prizes – the jackpot needs all seven main numbers.

Playing Lotto Max step by step

  1. Select seven different numbers from 1–50, or let a Quick Pick choose them for you.
  2. After the draw, count how many of your numbers appear among the winning numbers, in any order.
  3. The top prize needs all seven main numbers; smaller combinations win lower prizes set by the operator.

Lotto Max odds explained

There are 99,884,400 possible combinations in Lotto Max, so a single line has a 1 in 99,884,400 chance of the top prize. The next-best result, six main numbers, comes up about once every 331,842 lines, and matching at least four of the seven main numbers happens roughly once in 221 lines.

Compared with US Powerball, the jackpot is about 2.9 times easier to hit. Among the 88 lotteries on this site, Lotto Max ranks number 79 for jackpot odds, where number 1 is the easiest. In North America, New York Lotto (1 in 45.1 million) has better odds and Mega Millions (1 in 290.5 million) is harder.

Playing two lines in two draws every week – 208 lines a year – you would wait on average around 480,213 years for one jackpot, so the jackpot is something to dream about rather than plan for.

Using the Lotto Max tools on this page

The number generator gives you up to ten Lotto Max lines in the exact format of the game, using your browser’s cryptographic random generator. The odds tab lists every match combination, and the demo lets you pick numbers and watch a simulated draw. In the demo you tap seven numbers on a 50-ball board, or let Quick Pick do it.

The simulator goes further: ten years of two lines twice a week means 2,080 lines, and on average about 90 of them would match exactly three main numbers while the chance of a top prize in that time is only about 1 in 48,021. A random line is no luckier than your favourite numbers, yet it spreads your picks across the whole range instead of the 1–31 that birthday players crowd into.

Lottery Toolbox does not sell Lotto Max tickets; the demo uses no real money. Play only with the official operator and within a budget. 18+.
