What is Ötöslottó?
Ötöslottó is Hungary’s classic lottery and one of the oldest continuous lotteries in Central Europe, run by the state-owned Szerencsejáték. Its format is unusual by modern standards: only five numbers are drawn, but from a large pool of 90. That makes the jackpot extremely hard to win – about one in 44 million – and Ötöslottó jackpots can roll over for months, setting national records. Prizes start at two matching numbers, so smaller wins are much more common than the jackpot suggests.
How Ötöslottó works
- Pick five different numbers from 1–90 – your own favourites or a random Quick Pick.
- Check your line once the numbers are drawn – only which numbers match counts, not their order.
- The top prize needs all five main numbers; smaller combinations win lower prizes set by the operator.
Your chances in Ötöslottó
The draw can produce 43,949,268 different results, which means the jackpot odds for one line are 1 in 43,949,268. Lower down the table the picture changes quickly: a result of four main numbers turns up about once in 103,410 lines, and at least three correct main numbers about once in 1,217 lines.
In Europe, El Gordo de la Primitiva (1 in 31.6 million) has better odds and UK Lotto (1 in 45.1 million) is harder. Compared with US Powerball, the jackpot is about 6.6 times easier to hit. Among the 88 lotteries on this site, Ötöslottó ranks number 72 for jackpot odds, where number 1 is the easiest.
Playing two lines in two draws every week – 208 lines a year – you would wait on average around 211,295 years for one jackpot, so the jackpot is something to dream about rather than plan for.
Ötöslottó generator, odds table and demo
Start with the generator: it produces random Ötöslottó lines in the correct format, from one line to ten, and you can copy them in one click. The odds tab lists every match combination, and the demo lets you pick numbers and watch a simulated draw. In the demo you tap five numbers on a 90-ball board, or let Quick Pick do it.
The simulator goes further: ten years of two lines twice a week means 2,080 lines, and on average about 1.7 of them would match exactly three main numbers while the chance of a top prize in that time is only about 1 in 21,129. A random line is no luckier than your favourite numbers, yet it spreads your picks across the whole range instead of the 1–31 that birthday players crowd into.
