Totoloto
5 from 1–49 + 1 from 1–13

Totoloto in a nutshell

Totoloto is Portugal’s national lotto, run by Jogos Santa Casa, the gaming arm of the Santa Casa da Misericórdia de Lisboa, which uses its profits for social causes. Players choose five numbers from 1 to 49 and one Número da Sorte (lucky number) from 1 to 13. Matching all six numbers wins the jackpot, and there are prizes for smaller combinations as well. Portugal is also a EuroMillions country, but Totoloto’s odds of about one in 24.8 million are almost six times better than the European game.

How to play Totoloto

  1. Choose five different numbers from 1–49, or let a Quick Pick choose them for you.
  2. Add one bonus number from 1–13. It is drawn from a separate pool, so the same value can appear in both parts of the result.
  3. Wait for the draw and compare your line with the winning numbers; the order does not matter.
  4. The top prize needs all five main numbers plus the bonus number; smaller combinations win lower prizes set by the operator.

What are the odds in Totoloto?

A single Totoloto line has a 1 in 24,789,492 chance of winning the top prize – that is the number of different combinations the draw can produce. Getting at least three main numbers right is far more common, about one line in 197, while a result of five main numbers without the bonus happens about once in 2,065,791 lines.

Among the 88 lotteries on this site, Totoloto ranks number 57 for jackpot odds, where number 1 is the easiest. In Europe, Joker (Romania) (1 in 24.4 million) has better odds and Swiss Lotto (1 in 31.5 million) is harder. Compared with US Powerball, the jackpot is about 12 times easier to hit.

Playing two lines in two draws every week – 208 lines a year – you would wait on average around 119,180 years for one jackpot, so the jackpot is something to dream about rather than plan for.

Totoloto generator, odds table and demo

For a quick pick, the generator above builds random Totoloto lines – as many as ten at once – and checks that every number fits the 1–49 range. Switch to the odds tab for the chance of each combination, or open the demo to play a free draw. In the demo you also choose the bonus number from 1–13, exactly as on a real slip.

The simulator goes further: ten years of two lines twice a week means 2,080 lines, and on average about 10 of them would match exactly three main numbers while the chance of a top prize in that time is only about 1 in 11,918. A random line is no luckier than your favourite numbers, yet it spreads your picks across the whole range instead of the 1–31 that birthday players crowd into.

Lottery Toolbox does not sell Totoloto tickets; the demo uses no real money. Play only with the official operator and within a budget. 18+.
