PowerBall (South Africa) in a nutshell
PowerBall is South Africa’s highest-jackpot lottery, drawn every Tuesday and Friday at 21:00. Players choose five numbers from 1 to 50 and one PowerBall from a separate pool. When Sizekhaya Holdings took over the National Lottery in June 2026, the PowerBall pool was cut from 20 to 16 numbers, improving the jackpot odds to about one in 33.9 million. The record prize for any South African lottery game was won in PowerBall in January 2026, at almost R179 million.
How to play PowerBall (South Africa)
- Choose five different numbers from 1–50, or let a Quick Pick choose them for you.
- Add one bonus number from 1–16. It is drawn from a separate pool, so the same value can appear in both parts of the result.
- Wait for the draw and compare your line with the winning numbers; the order does not matter.
- The top prize needs all five main numbers plus the bonus number; smaller combinations win lower prizes set by the operator.
What are the odds in PowerBall (South Africa)?
A single PowerBall (South Africa) line has a 1 in 33,900,160 chance of winning the top prize – that is the number of different combinations the draw can produce. Getting at least three main numbers right is far more common, about one line in 209, while a result of five main numbers without the bonus happens about once in 2,260,011 lines.
Among the 88 lotteries on this site, PowerBall (South Africa) ranks number 66 for jackpot odds, where number 1 is the easiest. In Africa, Lotto (South Africa) (1 in 20.4 million) has better odds. Compared with US Powerball, the jackpot is about 8.6 times easier to hit.
Playing two lines in two draws every week – 208 lines a year – you would wait on average around 162,982 years for one jackpot, so the jackpot is something to dream about rather than plan for.
PowerBall (South Africa) generator, odds table and demo
Need numbers for your next ticket? The generator creates one to ten random PowerBall (South Africa) lines that follow the official rules, ready to copy. Switch to the odds tab for the chance of each combination, or open the demo to play a free draw. In the demo you also choose the bonus number from 1–16, exactly as on a real slip.
The simulator goes further: ten years of two lines twice a week means 2,080 lines, and on average about 9.7 of them would match exactly three main numbers while the chance of a top prize in that time is only about 1 in 16,298. Remember that a random line has exactly the same chance as any other; its real advantage is that you are less likely to share a prize with players who pick birthdays.
