Set for Life (Australia) in a nutshell

Set for Life is Australia’s daily annuity lottery, run by The Lott and drawn every single day. Instead of a rolling jackpot, the top prize pays $20,000 a month for 20 years. Each draw selects nine numbers from 1 to 44: the first seven are the winning numbers and the last two are supplementary numbers used for lower divisions. Matching all seven winning numbers takes the top prize, at odds of about one in 38.3 million.

How to play Set for Life (Australia)

1. Choose seven different numbers from 1–44, or let a Quick Pick choose them for you.
2. Wait for the draw and compare your line with the winning numbers; the order does not matter.
3. The top prize needs all seven main numbers; smaller combinations win lower prizes set by the operator.

What are the odds in Set for Life (Australia)?

A single Set for Life (Australia) line has a 1 in 38,320,568 chance of winning the top prize – that is the number of different combinations the draw can produce. Getting at least four main numbers right is far more common, about one line in 134, while a result of six main numbers happens about once in 147,956 lines.

Among the 88 lotteries on this site, Set for Life (Australia) ranks number 67 for jackpot odds, where number 1 is the easiest. In Oceania, Saturday Lotto (1 in 8.1 million) has better odds and Lotto Powerball (New Zealand) (1 in 38.4 million) is harder. Compared with US Powerball, the jackpot is about 7.6 times easier to hit.

Playing two lines in two draws every week – 208 lines a year – you would wait on average around 184,234 years for one jackpot, so the jackpot is something to dream about rather than plan for.

Free Set for Life (Australia) tools

The number generator gives you up to ten Set for Life (Australia) lines in the exact format of the game, using your browser’s cryptographic random generator. The odds tab lists every match combination, and the demo lets you pick numbers and watch a simulated draw. In the demo you tap seven numbers on a 44-ball board, or let Quick Pick do it.

The simulator goes further: ten years of two lines twice a week means 2,080 lines, and on average about 125 of them would match exactly three main numbers while the chance of a top prize in that time is only about 1 in 18,423. Random numbers do not change your chances, but they do avoid the dates and patterns thousands of other players choose, which matters when a jackpot is shared.
